Lactating and Male Breasts
Just as men are born with the ability to grow breasts, the same internal equipment to produce milk is also there. Of course, since men do not get pregnant - the hormonal signals that pregnant women get which tell their breasts to prepare for and then produce milk never come about in the normal course of a man's life. For lactation from male breasts to be a reality, we need to induce lactation. Here is how you can induce lactation from your male breasts... The first thing you need to do is to buy and start using a breast pump. A breast pump attached to your nipples sends a signals to your breast milk ducts to become active. This is similar to the action of a newborn baby suckling at his mother's breasts for the first time. That suckling is often the final signal for a woman to start the milk production. There are many breast pumps on the market. I recommend that you get a double electric breast pump. This will allow you to stimulate both breasts at the same time. The Lansinoh Double Electric Breast Pump Of course, there are many models and price ranges for breast pumps, but it is important to get one that is durable. You will be using the breast pump several times a day for several weeks. Once you have selected a breast pump that best meets your needs, you will need a proper fitting breast shield. A breastshield fits directly over your nipple and attaches to the pump kit, which is connected to the pump with tubing. The breastpump creates a vacuum which gently draws your nipple into the breastshield, removing milk from your breast or, for our purposes, stimulates the breasts and nipples. You will want to get breast shields that match the model you purchase. To make wearing the beast shields more comfortable and the seal tighter, as well as to protect your nipples, you may want to get a nipple cream such as Motherlove's Nipple Cream. The use of the milk breast pump is the main action that will induce lactation from male breasts. Both prolactin, the milk-making hormone, and oxytocin, the milk-releasing hormone, are produced in response to nipple stimulation. The sucking action of the pump stimulates the nipples which, in turn, tells the pituitary gland to start releasing these two essential hormones that instruct the breasts to produce and release milk. Pump both breasts approximately 20 minutes at a time, every 2-3 hours (4 or five times a day). Be very concise in your pumping, don't go more than three hours with out pumping. You will notice your breast will swell after about two weeks of pumping. This swelling is the same effect that pregnant women experience with their breasts. After another 4-6 weeks, you should start producing a small amount of milk. Along with the breast pump routine, you may want to take various supplements to help your body "think" it is female and thus more supportive for milk production. Several of the supplement are the same ones you would take to help your breasts grow. You will also want to get a Progesterone Cream There is some evidence that the only thing you need to do, to lactate, is use the breast pumps consistently. Still taking a combination of the following supplements should help in convincing your body, that it should lactate. Here is a list of supplements that are useful in the process. Follow the instructions on the bottles. Be aware about any health conditions you might have and moniter any reactions your body may have while taking these supplements: Most Useful for Breast Milk Production:
Helps Produce More Female-like Hormone Balance and Breast Growth:
The exact combination of how you use these above supplements is up to you. You don't need to take them all, and certainly you should be cautious for any effects these may have on your health. The purpose of the herbal supplements is to help your body mimic a female's hormone levels and balances. If the cells in your breasts think your body is "pregnant," they will turn on the ones needed for milk production. To induce lactation from male breasts is a process that can take about 2-3 months or little longer. The most important step is to be consistent and persistent with the breast pumping.
